I'm Not A Hippie....But I Wish I Had Dreads...
Because I didn't already feel stinky enough with the whole armpit detox I decided to detox my hair as well....not necessarily smelly.......but let me tell you....it was not a pretty sight. I didn't leave the house for months! Okay...that's not true but I didn't leave the house unless I had carefully hidden the oilyness from any passerbys.
Bubble and Bee (the same company that makes the Pit Putty) came out with pure castile shampoo not too long after I started using their deodorant. First you wash your hair with the shampoo then you rinse with vinegar and water. The vinegar restores your hair's pH. When you start using the shampoo you will experience a detox period that can last anywhere from a few days to two weeks. For me it was WAY longer. And I realized it was because we had hard water. :( It just wasn't working for me.....though my hair did get rid of all the chemical residue taking up residence in my hair for probably years it just didn't have the shine or luster I was expecting. There are things that can be done to fix the hard water problem....but I just wasn't ready to take the steps and time to fix it.
SIDE NOTE: I hope it doesn't come across like I don't like Bubble & Bee.....cause I do...very much. They are a great little company and the owner is SUPER nice. (and I'm not even getting paid to write this!!;) Anyways, we still buy other products from there and just didn't feel like the two I've mentioned were working for us. :)
So I started washing my hair with the shampoo and conditioner I use for the girls. It worked okay but for such small bottles and all my hair we weren't exactly saving money. So I searched and searched and finally found Aubrey Organics. I LOVE LOVE LOVE their products. They smell delicious and work really really well too. My hair is generally oily and my favorite shampoo of their's is the Green Tee Clarifying Shampoo. We always just use their GPB Glycogen Protein Balancing Conditioner. Did I mention they smell great? So that is what we use for hair care.....nothing less and nothing more.
Vitacost.com!-Where I buy all of our hair care, deodorant, vitamins, etc. Everything is always sold at warehouse prices.......which means 33%-75% less than retail value. Shipping is always just $4.99 and FAST! I usually get my order in a day or two. :) They have a lot of organic products but like I said before it's very IMPORTANT to read the ingredients to make sure it is truly pure and organic.
Happy Hair Detoxing!!! :)

SWEETS, PROCESSED JUNK, AND ALL THAT OTHER UNHEALHTY STUFF!!
REASONS WHY I THINK IT'S A BOY
Just thought I'd say we really don't "care" what it is....and that we just want a healthy baby whether it makes the score 4 to 1 or 3 to 2......... :) I'd love to have a boy (though it does slightly scare me...cause all I know is little girls) but there would be something special about having another girl too. Babies are blessings!

I'm Not A Hippie...And I Do Wear Deodorant...
Raise your hand if you do not use deodorant....on second thought.....let's keep those pits well hidden and covered.
So I've always been a warm (I'd say hot but then you'd think I'm being conceded) person. Even as a young child. It didn't matter what time of year it was I was usually barefoot and it didn't matter how cold it was outside my face would become beet-red from playing, running and well sweating. Not much has changed. In high school to combat the sweaty armpits I started using the clinical strength stuff and basically didn't sweat ever again.....seemed like a good idea right? Well I was so terribly wrong.
The deodorant I was using was filled with chemicals. Every single one of those chemicals is on the INGREDIENTS TO AVOID list. Sweating is a natural thing. It helps keep your body at the right temperature. I was making my body do unnatural things by applying horrible chemicals that were clogging my pores and keeping all of the smelly yucky bacteria inside. YUCK!
So around the time Madie was born I began looking for a organic deodorant. I came across this stuff called Pit Putty on Bubble & Bee's website. It's completely natural and organic.

Below are some deodorant tips from Bubble & Bee's website:
Deodorant Tips
Different anti-perspirants work in different ways. Some work by shrinking sweat glands. Others work by clogging or shrinking the pores in your underarms. Many studies have shown that the compounds in these anti-perspirants are not healthy, not allowing sweat glands to do their job releasing toxins. Over time the aluminum compounds have also been shown to collect in the brain, possibly leading to Alzheimers. (There are other chemicals to avoid, see the end of this article). While anti-perspirants have these disturbing side effects, deodorants work simply to fight bacteria and to scent the underarm. That's why many people believe using deodorants is a much healthier option.
When you switch from an anti-perspirant to a deodorant, your glands and pores will start to unclog, open up, and function properly. In this transition period, toxins and other fluid buildup are being released and one may notice his/her body odor increase. Not knowing the changes that are occurring in their body, this increased odor sends people running right back to their trusty anti-perspirant. Because I believe it is so important to avoid anti-perspirants, I've created these "rules" for making the switch.
Click here for the "rules" mentioned above.
I can't tell you how long I used the clinical strength stuff because I've forgotten but I think the length of time I used it contributed to the length of time it took for my armpits to detox. I started using the Pit Putty right away and boy did I stink.....and I kept on stinking for what seemed like forever! After a little while I emailed the owner of B&B and she recommended their stronger Pit Putty. I used that for a while. Now this was right in the middle of summer time so along with raging hormones after having a baby, detoxing my armpits and being in the stifling heat it's no wonder I was so smelly. I quickly learned the trick with natural and organic deodorant is reapplying throughout the day.....especially if it's hot and you're having a more than usual sweaty day. :)
I no longer use the Pit Putty. Here's what I'm using right now:
Aubrey Organics Calendula Blossom Natural Deodorant. Found here.
Before that I was using this: Weleda's Wild Rose Deodorant. See that here.
And before that I was using B&B's spray deodorant: Lemongrass Rosemary Deodorant....here.
All of these deodorants work well.....especially since I've long since detoxed!! Like I mentioned earlier you want to reapply throughout the day to keep fresh and not stinky!
And again....you have to READ READ READ the ingredients before you can be sure it is truly organic and natural.
So go on now......get on with your stinky-self and start your own Armpit Detox!! :)

Hurray! Baby T. likes cereal....of course the only kind I can stand to eat is the kind that is really bad for me....What's worse a bowl of Lucky Charms everynight or a bowl of icecream?
FOOD AVERSIONS
I'm getting tired of turkey and cheese sandwiches.
REASONS WHY I THINK IT'S A BOY
Although my nauseousness is pretty much gone. I still get rather sick to my stomach....especially if I think about certain foods or I don't eat often enough.

I'm Not A Hippie...But I Play One On T.V...
I believe that God gave us everything we need to live and strive on earth. Man has MADE a lot of things that we don't need. Many of those man-made things are in every single product you use....whether you're cleaning your body or your bathroom.....your toilet or your clothes.
We are made in God's image. Genesis 1:27-"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them." Are we not supposed to take care of that image.....the body God has given us? Part of taking care of our body means caring about what we put on our body (& in). The chemicals found in everyday household and skincare products get absorbed into the skin and then make their way to your bloodstream. They can make you sick.......causing.............cancer!?!..........alzheimer’s!?!.......lung disease!?!.....sadly the list goes on and on.
Becoming aware of the INGREDIENTS TO AVOID (ITA) is a very important step....and one of the first things I did. There are two places I look for these. Here and Here. The first is on Suki's website. The second is on a site called Bubble and Bee. B&B has great soap, lotion sticks, chapstick(where I get mine) and even hair care products. The creator, Stephanie, also has a blog where she writes about a different chemical every so often as well as oodles and oodles of information!!! For Stephanie's TOP 5 Chemicals to Avoid click here.
I studied the lists of INGREDIENTS TO AVOID and also wrote them down and kept them in my purse. It was very handy to have....uh...handy.....when I was looking for a particular product. I have now gotten to the point where I don't need the list and I can tell just by looking at the ingredients list if it is considered good or bad....organic or man-made. Another thing you can look for is how long the ingredient list is. If it's a small novel chances are it's got bad stuff in it. If it's really short or almost non-existent...then it's probably okay....I say "probably" because I've seen some short lists with a few bad ingredients....and if all else fails Google the brand and find a list of their product ingredients.
I encourage you to make a copy of the ITA and become familiar with them so that you can start living your life in a new and healthy way.
Now for a little game. The topic is Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) or Sodium Laureth Sulfate. This ingredient/chemical can be found in your everyday products like hand soap, shampoo, body wash, detergent, toothpaste and can even be found in garage floor cleaners, engine degreasers, and car wash soaps. Hmm...that just doesn't seem right to me. What do you think? Is it good or bad? Let's find out.
So...here's how to play:
First: Go grab 3 different household or skincare products in your house.
Next: Look for Sodium Lauryl Sulfate or Sodium Laureth Sulfate....it has other names so look for any form of Lauryl.
Then: If you find it.....throw it away!!! :) Okay, you don't have to, but you'll probably change your mind in a minute or so...
Last: I want you to read about SLS in this article found on Bubble and Bee's website.
Pretty gross right? Yah, I thought so. Did you throw it away yet?
I hope you found this helpful. Please feel free to comment with any questions. I'll probably answer it in the next post....
Here's last weeks question:
Q: I would like to try to switch to cleaning products that aren't so harsh but I don't really know what to use...do you have any suggestions?
A: Two words: Better Life. I came across Better Life while reading a post on Fig+Sage awhile ago. I love their products and I don't have to worry about what's in it. And it smells great too. I bought the Starter Kit. To see what's in the Starter Kit and/or to buy it click here. Plus they offer Free Shipping when you purchase the kit. When you look at the breakdown of prices it really is a great deal!
If you want to go a cheaper route you can always do the ol' water and vinegar mixture. It's cheap, non-toxic, all-natural, and good for the environment. Click here for tips.
Other brands I like:
Dr. Brommers: this has to be diluted and I currently use the liquid soap for hand soap. I just saved a soap dispenser and I added the Dr. B soap and some water. Easy Peasy. I buy it at Target. Click on the link above to read about the many uses these soaps have.
Babyganics: I've used a few of their products. I'm pretty sure they are good. Though sometimes I'm a little skeptical. Don't let the word Baby throw you off...it just means it's safe around kids.....well not safe for kids to use....oh you know what I mean!
Brands to avoid:
Seventh Generation
Method
Any "normal" brand (like All, Tide, Gain, etc) that says Free and Clear. It's still bad.

I'm Not A Hippie...But I Play One On T.V...
Here's a little background on why we went "green".
About two years ago when I was pregnant with Madeline I emailed a friend (E.) of mine who was starting a blog with her sister (S.) about organic products. I asked her about the problems I was having with my skin. You see when I am pregnant I break out horribly. I did with Delia and I was again with Madie. Thankfully my friend, E., told me how the stuff I was using was making things worse. The stuff I was using I thought was okay....considering I had bought it from Trader Joe's...now I'm not knocking TJ's here....I'm just saying...I learned that just because it's from there or any health food store doesn't mean it's "purely organic". So you have to be careful and you have to learn about the ever-growing list of INGREDIENTS TO AVOID...(that will be for another post...)
So shortly after I emailed E., her sister, S. contacted me about a product she had recently used by Suki. She was wondering if I would like to try it out. I of course said "YES!" Not too long later, the package from Suki arrived. I was so excited to use the products. Click here to see what was in the trial kit I got. That night I used the Exfoliate Foaming Cleanser and honestly I can say that I saw a difference almost immediately! It smelled good, felt great and even tasted yummy. My skin started looking better and better every day after. I was hooked and still use it to this day.
So once I became hooked on that I started researching other products and ingredients and began a quest to find and change EVERY single product I was using from chemical-laden to pure and organic loveliness. About 2 years later I've done just that. Now if only I ate more fresh and less processed junk......my next goal for going "green"....we shall see how that goes with this gigantic sweet tooth of mine.
I've posted about my friend's blog a lot actually. If you haven't already...check out Fig+Sage for great information about products that are purely organic.

Baby T. Minus 26 Weeks & Counting
JUST THE FACTS, MA'AM
We are 14 weeks & 1 day today.
Baby T. is about the size of a lemon.
He or She can now squint, frown, and grimace....practicing for later in life...especially if "it's" a girl...
She or He can possibly suck her or his thumb...let's hope not since it's not the easiest habit to break...just ask Delia.
One thing I could do without in my pregnancies is the blushing. Yes, I said blushing. It must be a hormonal thing because before I had kids I NEVER blushed...even if I got embarrassed. Now I blush whether I'm embarrassed or not. It's...well embarrassing. :) Most of the time it happens around men....even men I know pretty well....And like I said I'm not embarrassed.....It's weird!
We find out the Baby's sex in a little more than 5 weeks...March 11th to be exact! Don't forget to vote.
My next appointment is Feb. 16th...the day after Jake's birthday!
FOOD CRAVINGSStill haven't had Chipotle but I haven't really craved had a craving for it yet either.
I've been craving spicy things....like chips and salsa...I usually just dip the chip in the salsa juice...but lately I've been scooping out the yummy goodness that makes salsa...well salsa.
Also, had a craving for cream cheese (something I've slowly come to like) with raspberry and roasted chipotle sauce......YUMMY! It's spicy and sweet and just what I wanted.
FOOD AVERSIONS
I can't think of anything new right now....
REASONS WHY I THINK IT'S A BOY
Craving spicy food is new. Craving anything really is new b/c I hardly had cravings with the girls.
Not craving sweets like I did with the girls.
Being cold. With both girls I was always warm or too hot! With this one I can't seem to stay warm. For example, yesterday the thermostat read 71 degrees and I had goosebumps! Weird? I think so.
BABY BELLY @ 14 WEEKS (I finally hung up pictures...since our lease is up in 4 months of course)
