Gap Casting Call

So every Fall Gap puts on a Casting Call where you can enter pictures of your kids and possibly win the following:
-Professional Gap photo shoot
-Their photo in Gap stores nationwide
-$1,000 Gap GiftCard redeemable for a babyGap or GapKids wardrobe
-VIP vacation to see Disney's THE LION KING in New York or Las Vegas

So the rules go as followed:
-You have until Oct. 22nd to enter pictures.
-A panel of judges will narrow down all entries to 20 (5 baby boys, 5 baby girls, 5 boys and 5 girls).
-Voting starts Dec. 7th and ends Dec. 21st.
-The four children (one from each category) with the most votes will be announced Feb. 1st.

Pretty simple and cool. But there's more. This year they have a Fan Favorite feature. The Fan Favorite feature means that the child with the most amount of votes from now until Nov. 17th could win a seven-day/six-night family vacation to either Turks & Caicos or Jamaica from Beaches Resorts. The Fan Favorite winner will be announced on December 7, 2009.

So here's the deal. Obviously I think my own kids are adorable but I am a little biased. :) I entered a few pictures of
Delia and Madie. Click on their names and vote for their pictures. I don't really expect us to win the Fan Favorite because I started out a little late and some of those kids have thousands of votes already!! But I still thought it would be fun. So like I said all you have to do is click on their names and vote........EVERYDAY until Nov. 17th....not too hard right?

Oh and one more thing....you should enter your cutie patooties too! I think the age range is 0 to 10. But the pictures have to be within the last 3 months. If you enter leave me a comment and I'll be sure to vote for your kiddos too.

Don't put off going to the dentist!

I had a root canal this morning at 8 a.m. It was grand! And now we wait and see if I have more pain. If I have more pain then that most likely means there is a root canal fracture which means the tooth will have to be pulled. I'm hoping and praying there is no more pain. Happy Thursday to me!

So because of the wonderful root canal and the pain I am still in because of it I am going to be posting a bunch of lovely pictures of my lovely girls.......rather than boring you with my endless word vomit. :)

Enjoy!

Rock of Ages and People Watching

We like music. We used to listen to music a lot more when we had a working radio/cd player in our car. Any time you turn the radio on the antenna tries to go up and makes one of the most annoying sounds in the world...it kind of even sounds a little bit like this.

A few weeks ago a friend of mine posted a link to a website where you can listen to music for FREE. It's called
lala....where music plays. This is what their website says:

With Lala you can:
•Play over 7 million songs for free – no ads or clutter.
•Play your music, anywhere on the web. Instantly upload the tracks on your computer to your Lala collection.
•Get a feed of music picks from friends and experts.
•Buy new music, easily and affordably.

Pretty cool.....I think. So anyways I've been listening to music a lot more now. My favorite right now.....

Chris Rice - Peace Like A River: The Hymns Project

I've also been listening to a lot of Jack Johnson's albums......his Curious George album is one of my favorites.

I'm not very musical. I can't sing. I never learned to play an instrument aside from the recorder of course....but that was ages ago in Jr. High. I can dance....so I guess that says something about feeling the beat but that's about as far as I go with music. Delia, I think has acquired a musical ear from Jake. He can play the guitar, drums and piano.....though it's been a long time....I'm pretty sure he'd be able to pick it up instantly....kind of like riding a bike you never forget.

So anyways the two albums I mentioned above have been playing almost daily for the past few weeks. Delia has started singing along with them and it is one of the cutest things I've ever seen. Click below to watch her sing Rock of Ages. I love that she makes up some of the words..........:) Enjoy!

Delia's Butterfly Garden

About a month ago a friend from church gave me a Live Butterfly Garden. Her girls had already done it and so she passed it on to me. All we had to do was mail $3.00 with the coupon and wait for our caterpillars to arrive.

A few weeks later they arrived. Delia and I opened the box and inside was a small container with 5 caterpillars. The bottom of the container was covered in food which they ate and ate and ate. If you've ever read, The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle then you would understand just how hungry they can be and if you haven't read it......then you should. :)

After a few days four of the caterpillars crawled to the top of the container and hung upside down. The strange thing is that one moment I'd look and they'd look like a caterpillar still and the next time I looked they'd be in their coccoons. It seemed like the process of going from caterpillar to coccoon happened so quickly but in reality it probably took the whole day. I was just busy and didn't notice. So while the four coccoons were hanging there the other caterpillar kept disturbing them. And the coccoons would shake violently in an attempt to scare the "predator" away. The lone caterpillar was not deterred and continued "bugging" the coccoons until the next day when he finally decided it was time to change too.

Here is the 5th caterpillar hanging upside down ready to become a cocoon.

The following day we (and by we I mean Jake) took the lid off of the container and put the paper they were hanging on into the butterfly habitat. And that is where they sat for about a week.

Then one day while I was making lunch I glanced at the cage and there were four butterflies hanging onto the inside of the cage. I couldn't believe it had happened so quickly and that I didn't even get to see one "hatch". The next day the fifth butterfly emerged....and of course we missed this one "hatch" too.

The directions say to decorate the bottom of the cage with flowers and then drip a mixture of water and sugar onto the flowers. We didn't have any flowers so we used paper towels wadded up and saturated with the mixture instead. We also had some watermelon that we put in there. It was fun watching them drink. I've never seen a butterfly drink before. It was very interesting to say the least.

Here is Delia making their drink.

A few days later we decided it was time to set them free. We went outside to the big bushes near our apartment and Jake started taking them out one by one. The first one stayed on his hand long enough to get a few pictures. The rest flew away as soon as they could. The last one however flew to the bush and sat there and let me take pictures of it before it flew away like the others.

We enjoyed our little Butterfly Garden. Delia had a lot of fun watching them change. She even named them......but their names changed on an hourly basis. So they were very hard to keep track of. Bood, Pick, Trick, Heed, and Hode are some of the names I remember.

At least I didn't promise

in my last post that I was going to blog for the next 5 days. So my plans changed. Between the usual busyness that is my life we were dealing with a little stomach bug and a dentist appointment......you know the kind that last for a few hours. So that is why I didn't post anymore last week.

We are still feeling a little under the weather. Well actually I've been feeling fine.......it's the other three who have been yucky. Thankfully it hasn't been a bad bug though.

So this is my plan...........for the rest of the week (until Friday that is) I will most likely post at least once a day.

Maybe I'll post tomorrow and maybe I wont..........:)

What can I say.........

Things have been busy around here and blogging hasn't really made it on my to-do list. But since my lovely mother asked this morning when I would be updating the blog I decided it was about time I did. So I plan to post everyday for the next 5 days. That will hopefully catch me up on all of the stories, pictures and everything else so that maybe just maybe I can update more often. You see what happens is I either let too much time pass and the story is forgotten or I have so many things I want to write about that I don't know where to start. I'm a list writer...I write lists for EVERYTHING! I think to fix this little blogging problem I'm going to start making lists of things/stories that I want to blog about. Sound good? Great!

Moving on....I have a brand new little cute handsome adorable nephew to go along with my other 6 cute handsome adorable nephews (well some of those nephews probably wouldn't appreciate being called cute...but oh well....what are crazy aunties for?) Congrats Rachael and Tyler.........oh and Big brother Justus! We love you. ;)

And now I leave you with some recent pictures of the girls.............

If you give a baby a watermelon...
she'll eat and eat and eat...

& then ask for more.

Madeline decided to "help" Gramma with the gardening...

She had a lot of fun!
